Confirm Meade County Jail Release

That route is the correct first public check once Meade placement is supported.

Meade’s page lists the state VINE number as 866-574-8463. The Kansas Attorney General’s announcement and victim guide also support that number, although another official landing page returned a one-digit conflict during research. Confirm the live number before relying on it. The official Meade referral is stronger than an invented jail-roster link.
Meade County Jail VINE Results
Kansas VINE covers adult offenders held in participating county jails. Search a particular person by the fields offered in the live interface and compare identifiers when a name is common. A matching result can show custody information reported by the jail. Registration may provide notice when that status changes. The service is an event and notification channel, not a complete permanent archive.
Event wording must remain exact. Release, transfer, and escape are different status changes. A transfer from Meade means Meade custody ended while another authority took control. It does not mean release into the community. A release alert also does not prove the charge was dismissed, the sentence ended, or supervision was discharged. The Gray court file addresses the case, while the receiving agency addresses any next custody.

Kansas Open Records Act definitions may affect the response. K.S.A. 45-217 excludes jail rosters from the definition of criminal-investigation records, but it does not command disclosure of every field or image. Ask the custodian to identify the legal basis for any withholding.

Gray Sheriff records can be reached at gysorecords@grayco.org, 620-855-3916, or PO Box 487, Cimarron, KS 67835. Use that channel to prove the Gray-to-Meade link. Gray’s general open-records process says most records will be produced within three business days, permits fees, and may require a written form. Those Gray procedures should not be represented as Meade’s fee or response policy.
Meade Jail in Gray Custody

Current Gray Sheriff narratives establish Ford transports in other events. Taken together, the sources show contracted, event-specific jail placement. They do not support a permanent rule that Gray always uses Meade, always uses Ford, or operates a conventional county jail of its own.
Time and source are crucial. An older directory or commission record can identify a real historical relationship, but a current person inquiry needs the current transfer entry. Conversely, a recent Ford example does not erase a supported Meade placement in another period. Ask where this person was delivered on this date.
The host-jail model also changes record ownership. Gray remains the source for the arrest and handoff. Meade owns its jail entry. Gray District Court owns the case record if the charge was filed there. KDOC takes over if a court commits the person to state custody. This layered approach is slower than one roster search, but it matches the public record.
Meade Release and Gray Court
Gray District Court belongs to the Sixteenth Judicial District with Meade and other nearby counties. Even when physical custody is in Meade, a case filed in Gray remains a Gray court record. The docket may show charge, bond, hearing, disposition, sentence, probation, revocation, warrant, or a later order. It cannot by itself certify the exact moment Meade released the person.
A bond order may supply the authority for release while the case continues. A sentence may explain time served or a commitment to KDOC. After a Meade Jail Release
A Meade departure can lead to the community, another county jail, KDOC, federal custody, or supervision. The release entry should name the supported type or destination. Do not infer unrestricted community release from the fact that a VINE record changed or a person no longer appears in one system.
If KASPER later shows parole, conditional release, or postrelease supervision, the person left state prison but remains under KDOC authority. If the Gray court places the person on probation, the order and named supervision program govern. These are later milestones and should not be merged with the Meade release time.
